Review: Laneige Water Supreme Foundation SPF15 PA+

I have always love Chanel Foundation for their texture, coverage and consistency. However, I do know that Chanel is not always the most affordable cosmetic range for most people and I'm still always on the look out for great foundations that cost less. AforArcade October 2013 Lookbook

Hello Once Again!

Over the years of doing makeup and hair, I have began to realise that who you work with is much more important than what you are working on. Awesome people come together and they produce spectacular work. It is as simple as that.

The entire process of pre to post production is always more memorable and more enjoyable when you are working with awesome people. And awesome here means people who are professional, wants and will achieve good work, have a fantastic attitude, respect your creativity and space and most importantly, they have learnt how to trust by taking risk.

This Rainy September, me and AforArcade at teamed up once again for their October 2013 Lookbook, and yes, they are the awesome bunch of people who I am talking about. I love working with them and it is always a pleasure. Usually I will have to choose to pick only a few photos that I love from all the work that I have done for sharing because there are simply too many, but this time round, I love the entire series of photos and I could not just pick a few. Photos that are put together as a series by the photographer must be presented as the series. I feel that in this way, you will respect the photographer artistic eye and hence respect his or her work.  I have uploaded the entire series onto my Portfolio.

Do take a look and have fun shopping at AforArcade!

I hope you love this series as much as I do. More to come folks as I take time to upload all the work I have done this year!

Review: Make Up Store Matte Microshadow

Posted on by Gwen Tan in Makeup, Reviews (Makeup) | Leave a comment

Makeup Store Matte Microshadows MA 2

Hi Guys!

I think not everybody loves matte eyeshadows. Usually it is because they are harder to apply as they show mistakes, especially blending errors really easily. However, if you are willing to put in a little more effort into learning how to blend, matte eyeshadows are actually your best friend, in terms of colour and pigment quality, and endless looks you can create with them.

I love odds colours, or colours that are not commonly used for daily makeup. Have always find them irresistible when I see them. Also, matte eyeshadows are not very easy to find as they are not so consumer friendly. You can only expect to find them in Makeup Speciality Stores like MAC, MAC PRO, Shu Uemura and Makeup Store.

I have all the matte shadows from the brands mentioned above but today, I’m going to share my favourite of them all. In terms of price and the quality that you get. Say hello to Make Up Store Matte Microshadow!

Its Features:

    • Highly pigmented although they are compressed powder eyeshadows
    • Can be used together with Makeup Store Mixing Liquid and use as face paint or eyeliner
    • Will also be waterproof with Mixing liquid

What I Think:

    • As a powder eyeshadow, it is easy to blend.
    • Colour is highly pigmented.
    • A very decent price for a large pot of eyeshadow. ($27)
    • A very wide range of Matte Eyeshadows which are absolutely gorgeous.
    • Little fall out.

    • It is stated on their website that Microshadow creates colour that last the entire day, I personally find that it only hold true if you use their Clear Eye Primer. Without the primer, especially for oily lids, it will not last the entire day.
    • The packaging as usual is not very sturdy. With multiple openings, the hinge actually breaks.

Will I Recommend It?

Yes if you love eyeshadows like I do and is not afraid to wear them. If you are not as adventurous in terms of eye makeup, it is also alright. Try out their blushers instead, the matte ones are lovely too! great for oily skin and looks that require matte cheeks.

If you are a professional makeup artist like I do, Make Up Store Matte Microshadows are an absolute must in your kit!

Review: The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsules

The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsules

The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsules

Hello Everyone!

To all my muslim readers a very happy EID and to everyone a very happy holiday! I finally can take a breather and I’m so happy to be blogging again. Yes, I have been really busy with appointments but it is a happy kind of busy. Anyway, time flies and it is already August. When I was young, I always wished time can go by faster because I want to grow up and do things that adult do, but when it really happen, I wish time could slow down a little so I have time to rest and rejuvenate. How about you? Do you feel the same way too?

Remember 2 years ago, when I started this blog, I did a post on consuming Vitamin C 1000 daily and the wonders it does to your skin? Well, I’m very glad to share with you one of the skincare product in my skincare routine that I have using for 2 years and I still swear by it. It is The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Radiance Capsules.

I use this as a serum every night and I love how my skin feels the next day after shower. My skin feels smooth, moisturised, supple and makeup goes on really easily. Also, I always recommend this to my clients who have issues of dull, tired and uneven skin tone.

I have combination skin so I did actually feel that it was too oily initially but because I sleep in air-conditioned room, it turned out to be perfectly fine. It helps lock the moisture in my skin while air conditioning is on and keeping it well moisturised.

Its Features:

    • Smooth and revive skin’s appearance
    • Enhance natural glow
    • For dull skin

What I Think:

    • Really moisturises the skin
    • Easy to apply
    • Skin does feel smooth after application
    • Helps to even out uneven skin tone
    • Packaging is hygienic and 1 capsule is enough for the entire face and neck

    • Natural glow is not sustained for a long period of time
    • Not suitable for very oily skin and sensitive skin

Will I Recommend It?

Yes, if you have dry, normal, combination skin and suffers from dull and uneven skin tone, this product will help boost the luminosity of your skin and it is also very pocket friendly. It is actually a serum so use it after your toner, before your moisturiser. My favourite feature of this product is that makeup really goes on much easier with it.

I hope this helps!

Review: Laneige Homme Pure Brightening Peeling Cleanser

Laneige Homme Pure Brightening Peeling Cleanser

Laneige Homme Pure Brightening Peeling Cleanser

Hello Beauty Addicts!

For the very first time on Makeup Toys, I’m going to review a skincare product that is made for Man. Yes, for guys. I did not try this on my face. But the test subject is my boyfriend and all in all, I have been gathering reviews from him for close to 2 months, which means this tube of Face Wash is almost empty!

I guess for most guys, being into skincare products seems like an effeminate thing to do but I can assure you that being concern about your personal hygiene and grooming is not feminine at all. In fact, it is a blessing because looking good really has an edge in this world and on the plus side, you feel great about yourself too!

And for guys, I think basic man’s grooming starts from deodorant, after shave balm if you shave, perfume, face wash, moisturiser and suitable haircut. See, not too much isn’t it? :) However, I do understand that grooming is a very personal thing so I shall have more reviews for you to decide on whether you should start on Skincare. Or for ladies, the reviews can help give you a better start on buying man’s skincare and coaxing your man to start using them.

First up, I’m going to start on something really essential that I think everyone does daily, and that is face wash.

Laneige Homme Pure Brightening Peeling Cleanser

What It Says

    • Gel cleanser
    • With micro-scrubbing beads
    • Removes dead skin cells and impurities
    • Mild skin friendly amino acids
    • Suitable for use daily

What I Think

    • It is very affordable at less than $40 for a 150ml tube
    • Suitable for day and night use
    • Does not strip skin of its moisture and thus does not leave the skin feeling tight
    • Skin does appear brighter and feels soft
    • Micro-scrubbing beads does help in smoothing out skin surface
    • Pleasant scent
    • Suitable to use even on very dry and hot weather

    • Not suitable for oily skin or skin that wants the ultra fresh feeling after wash
    • This face wash does NOT do any form of peeling so I do not understand why its name gives the impression of skin peeling off
    • Texture is more mousse like than gel-like

Will I Recommend It?

Yes, because I think it is a good cleaner for those with normal to combination skin. The texture of the skin is very much improved, from coarse and dull to smoother and brighter. And the Micro beads are gentle enough to be used on a daily basis. We have also brought this cleaner along on our travels and so far, it has been performing great, even on very dry weather.

You can purchase Laneige Homme Skincare products from all their leading boutiques and major department stores. I highly recommend you not to purchase from Online sources no matter how much cheaper they seem to be as there are really a lot of counterfeit products floating around in the online market.

If your man is already using skincare, why not share with me and the rest of the readers? Do leave a comment!
