Basic Budget Brush Starter Kit for Makeup Lovers

Hi Everyone!

A friend of mine asked me to write a post on basic brush starter kit for makeup lovers about a month ago and I’m finally getting down to it now. However, I have decided to do a 2 part series, former will be focused on Budget Brushes and the latter will be focus on Higher End Brushes. I have been delaying because at that time, I was testing out some brushes and after some information gathering and some tests, I’m ready to share with all of you some decent pocket friendly brushes for all Makeup Lovers.

The brushes that I’m going to share in this post are also in my kit when I work, so be rest assured that they are all of high performance quality. 1 thing that I have to caution all of you out there is that as much as we would love to believe that good brushes will naturally produce flawless finish, a beautifully applied makeup is always about the combination of the quality of the tools, products and techniques.

1. The Body Shop Face/Body Powder Brush

If you are a powder foundation user, this brush is excellent for blending powder onto the face for a more natural finish as compared to the traditional sponge. It is extremely soft and easy to maintain. You can also use this to dust loose powder. The only down side is that the end of the handle is bulky and it is very difficult to keep in my brush belt. A cosmetic pouch is probably the best place to keep this brush although there is a chance to destroy the shape of the brush bristles. Each brush cost SGD 32.90.

 2. Coastal Scents Angled Small Synthetic Brush (BR-C-S24)

This is originally a blush/contouring brush but I use it to apply liquid foundation onto the face. Because it is small, it is able to reach difficult to access face contours and is easy to buff product onto the skin. You can use this as a blusher brush. Just make sure you can at least 2 of these brushes, 1 for blush and the other for foundation. You can purchase this from Coastal Scents Website and it is so cheap. Each brush is only USD 4.95.

 3. MAC Eye Shadow Blending Brush 224

This is actually an eye shadow blending brush but I use this for buffing concealer onto the face. It makes blending under the eyes, around the nose area super easy. This is the most expensive brush of the lot but it is worth every penny. This brush cost SGD 53.

 4. Coastal Scent Classic Blender Crease Synthetic (BR-C-S08)

I use this brush a lot of apply cream and powder eye shadow. Easy to blend out harsh lines. It cost only USD 2.49 from Coastal Scents Website.

 5. ELF Small Precision Eye Shadow Brush

This is a cheap alternative to Chanel Small Precision Eye Shadow Brush. Use this to blend out eye liner for a simple easy smokey effect or use this to line the lower lash line. It cost SGD 3.

 6. Bdellium Tools Eye Liner Brush

I like Bdellium Tools Brushes because they have anti-bacterial properties. Excellent for personal daily use and really affordable. I like this eye liner brush because the brush bristles have just the right amount of density and firmness for drawing precise lines. This brush cost USD 8.80 without shipping.

 7. ECO Tools Eye Brow Angled Brush

Always use a brow brush to blend out the harsh line you encounter after filing in your brows for a more natural finish. This brush can also double up as an eye liner brush. This brush cost SGD 6.90.

All brushes shown here are made of synthetic bristle and are widely available. I do not particularly like to buy natural bristle brushes because I use alcohol to clean them so heavily that synthetic brushes usually last longer and are easier to maintain. I do however own 1 type of natural bristle brush and that is the flat foundation brush.

Cheers!
