Adopt A Forever Doggy Friend Today!

Posted on by Gwen Tan in Inspiration | Leave a comment

Dear all lovely readers,

I’m a dog lover and I’m a supporter of Adoption over buying a pet. Also, I am a firm believer in providing adequate care physically and mentally for your doggy pals in terms of nutrition and play time.

Although this blog is for me to share my passion on Makeup and all things Beauty related, I would like to take this opportunity to share a lovely story by a Singapore Local Documentary on the plight of Singapore Stray Dogs and the good people going around helping them. This show is called Everyday Heroes and on this particular episode, Episode 6, they shared a lovely and beautiful story about 1 man’s believe of rescuing and rehabilitating Stray Dogs in Singapore. Mr Ricky Yeo founded Action for Singapore Dogs and has been helping One Dog at A Time ever since. He is a truly remarkable man and do support his cause!

Over here, we call our Strays Singapore Special and if you live in Singapore and love to have a Forever Friend, do head out to these few dog welfare organizations in Singapore. All organizations mentioned here run solely on donations and if you wish to support them in anyway, do visit their website and contact their personals.

Dog Welfare Organizations in Singapore

I have an adopted Dog and his name is Marco. Here is a picture of me and him!

We bring him for Doggy School every Sunday and Marco is now training for the Novice Level where he has to learn to obey commands without a leash. He passed the previous test : Pre Novice Level with the Highest Score of 91/100 in the club!

Dogs are really smart but they can only put their smart to good use if owners spend enough time with them. As much as we love to cuddle them and shower them with only treats and toys, they are our responsibility too to nurture, guide and teach to become a K9 Good Citizen.

Here is the Link to the documentary Everyday Heroes: Episode 6

If you know of any other doggy charity or if you run a doggy charity organization and I have not mention you in the list above, please do send me an email at ask@makeupaffair and I will be glad to put you in the list!

If you have an adopted dog and have amazing stories to share about your journey having an adopted dog, I will be glad to share your story on my blog! Please do send your beautiful stories to ask@makeupaffair.com!

The 3 Best Youtube Beauty Channels You Must Visit!

Posted on by Gwen Tan in Makeup | 4 Comments

Great beauty videos are always so entertaining. They are good for people who do not have time to read through a How-To Post and are also great for those who need visual guidance in terms of applying makeup. So, if you are looking for the best beauty channels on YouTube, here are the 3 best channels that will satisfy all your beauty needs! They are all channels of Top Professional Makeup Artists and they share so many tips it is amazing. So get ready your makeup and lets watch some beauty videos!

1. Gossmakeupartist

Wayne Goss is a professional Makeup Artist from the UK and his YouTube Channels is awesome. It is short, sweet and straight to the point. If you do not have time to sit through a 10 minutes beauty tutorial, Gossmakeupartist is the channel for you. His channel is also full of tips and tricks and he always make it so simple. The best thing is if you cannot catch what he is saying, especially the type of products he used, he always list them in the Description box. It is awesome and you can always refer to the list instead of re-watching.  Goss Also reviews very exotic brush sets and he seeks to give his honest opinion thus everything is purchased by him. He is not sponsored to give his reviews on any of his products. I love it and I’m sure you will too!

2. Lisa Eldridge

I have recommended Lisa Eldridge in my previous post on The 3 Best Beauty Blogs You Must Visit and I’m recommending her YouTube Channel here again because her videos are really informative . She is a Professional and she really knows her stuff. Her videos are always bright and makes the colors she uses very obvious too.

3. Pixiwoo

Pixiwoo is a YouTube Makeup Channel that is managed by 2 professional Makeup Artist from the UK. Their YouTube channel is always very professionally shot and you can always see very clearly how they are applying the Makeup Look being featured. I love the bright setting and is great for beginners. Also, they do a lot of fun makeup looks and celebrity Makeup Looks.

I hope this helps! If you have other beauty channels that you find useful, please do share it with me and the rest of the readers too!

Review: Giorgio Armani Designer Shaping Cream Foundation Does Wonders for Mature Skin

Posted on by Gwen Tan in Makeup, Reviews (Makeup) | Leave a comment

I have never come across a cream foundation as luscious as Giorgio Armani Designer Shaping Cream Foundation. It photos really well, in both natural and studio light, and it makes even the most tired and dull looking mature skin glow, without applying any illuminating primer. This cream foundation has medium coverage and if you use only a little, it can give light coverage.

Its Features:

Giorgio Armani Cosmetics introduces a new exclusive “cosmetic textile” Designer Shaping Cream Foundation with SPF 20, inspired by Giorgio Armani ‘s couture expertise of double silk, luxurious firm yet supple second skin fabric.

Designer Shaping Cream is a unique double silk blend like cream foundation that works to:

    • Lift and Shape Skin’s Surface
    • Smooth away fine lines and wrinkle
    • A combination of oils allow the foundation to glide on like second skin
    • Replenishes moisture in skin with 12 hours of comfort
    • Armani glow finish boosted by luminous micro-pearl particles
    • Skin looks younger
    • Sun protection with SPF 20

What I Think:

PROS

    • A little product goes a long way
    • Contours the face really well
    • Gives tired and mature skin the much needed glow
    • Skin looks smoother and less dehydrated
    • Even in camera, skin still look luscious
    • Dry wrinkly skin feels comforted and nourished
    • When applied with a patting motion on freckles and dark spots, it has the ability to cover them up
    • Feels like cashmere

CONS

    • If you set this foundation with a normal loose powder, the skin will look very matte, which is not a good thing for mature skin because when we deal with mature or dull looking skin, we really want to put more life back onto the skin. You will want to keep the skin as dewy as possible.
    • To keep the glow, powder has to be used selectively and if possible, choose a powder that has a sheer finish.
    • Due to its creamy texture, only makeup sponge and fingers work best for application. A normal foundation brush leaves too many visible brush strokes.
    •  Take awhile for the foundation to set and feels natural on the skin but once it sits, it stays really well. So you will have to be patient with this foundation.

Will I Recommend It?

Yes, I will highly recommend this foundation for people with Dry Skin and for Mature Skin.

This foundation is not for people with oily skin. However, if you are going to be in harsh winter, this is a great foundation to carry around. For best results, foundation must always be applied onto the neck for a more seamless finish. You do not want the face to look younger than the neck.

Price and Where To Buy Giorgio Armani Cosmetics in Singapore:

It cost SGD$86 for a 30ml bottle.

You can purchase Giorgio Armani Designer Shaping Cream Foundation SPF 20 at DFS Galleria at Scotts Rd Orchard.

If you have tried other foundations that are great for mature skin, do share it with me! You can comment on the comment box or simply send me an email at ask@makeupaffair.com!

Cheers!

Look : Jeremy Scott Cow Girl Barbie 2012 Spring/Summer Runway

Posted on by Gwen Tan in Looks, Makeup | Leave a comment

Click on Image for a larger view.

Greetings!

I’m loving Jeremy Scott’s 2012 Spring/Summer Runway Makeup Look!

I love the freckles that he chose to add onto his models, the peach blush, the nude lips and definitely the very dewy young skin makeup that is absolutely gorgeous.

The essence of this look is all about Summer with a girly touch. It is really easy to do, even the freckles added onto the face. You can use your eyebrow pencil in brown and a grey eyeliner to draw the freckles. Using 2 different shades will make the freckles look more natural. Just remember to gently pat the false freckles onto the skin after drawing them so they look more natural.

Runway Makeup is achievable at home too! Have fun!
